The 2006 Deloitte Connecticut Technology Fast 50 Webloyalty again topped the list of the fastest growing companies in Connecticut as recognized by Deloitte & Touche USA LLP and the Connecticut Technology Council at the annual award event held October 12 at the Chevrolet Theater in Wallingford. Nearly 350 attendees turned out for the awards gala. This is the first time in the 10-year history of the Connecticut Technology Fast 50 that a company has won the number one ranking twice in a row. The Connecticut Technology Fast 50 is an annual award program that ranks technology companies located in Connecticut by revenue growth over five years. Norwalk-based Webloyalty is a leading provider of technology-based, online affinity services, supplying more than one million subscribers with reward, discount and protection programs. They scored a remarkable 15,151% revenue growth over the five years 2001-2005. The average five year growth of the Top 10 Companies was a robust 867% and for the entire Fast 50 the average growth was 51%. First time winners, Tangoe, Inc., a software company, based in Orange, and Stamford-based, managed network security provider Cervalis, LLC posted remarkable 3,785% and 2,169% revenue growth respectively. In yet another first, both Tangoe and Cervalis made the Top 3 in their first year of eligibility in the Fast 50 program after qualifying as a Rising Star last year. This year’s Fast 50 marks the programs’s 10th anniversary. Several companies on this year’s list are notable for their stellar repeat performances. They include: Triple Point Technology, Inc., Photronics, Inc., ATMI, Inc., Open Solutions, Inc., and Memry Corporation, each with an amazing nine consecutive appearances. SS&C Technologies, Competitive Technologies, Inc., and Foster Corporation have each won seven times. Two companies last listed on the 2004 Fast 50 earned “Come-back Company” honors: Amphenol Corporation at #28 and TransAct Technologies, Inc., at #45. “We view these results as a testament to the resilience and strength of the technology sector in Connecticut”, said Matthew Nemerson, President of the Connecticut Technology Council. “We are proud of these results as they demonstrate once again that Connecticut is competing well in attracting and retaining some of the country’s very best technology companies.” To be considered, Technology Fast 50 entrants must have operating revenues of at least $50,000 in 2001 and at least $5,000,000 in 2005, be headquartered in Connecticut, own proprietary technology or proprietary intellectual property that contributes to a significant portion of its operating revenues, or devote a significant proportion of revenues to the research and development of technology. Trends among this year’s list include:
A special category called “Rising Stars” recognized the four fastest growing technology companies based on revenue growth over three or four years (2002–2005). Rising Star Award Winners: Evolution Benefits, Inc. from Avon, CT and HigherOne from New Haven. CTC President and CEO Matthew Nemerson noted that the Fast 50 companies are the “economic heroes of the Connecticut economy. They are creating jobs and wealth for the state and these companies are further proof of the depth and vitality of the state’s technology sector.” The Fast 50 program is presented by Deloitte and the Connecticut Technology Council, in association with Business New Haven, Computer Associates, Carter Morse & Mathias, Connecticut Innovations, One Communications, NASDAQ, Pullman & Comley, LLC, and UK Trade & Investment.
