Tangoe Expands
May 2013 - Member company Tangoe, an Orange-based provider of communications lifecycle management software and related services, has expanded its operations in the EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) region in response to the rapid adoption of its technology and services for managing mobile communications within the enterprise. In response, Tangoe has increased the size and capability of operations centers in Abingdon, U.K. and Amsterdam, Netherlands.


Protein Sciences Ready to Produce Bird-Flu Vaccine
May 2013 - CTC member company and flu-vaccine maker Protein Sciences says it is ramped up and ready to produce enough quantities of vaccine as necessary to prevent a pandemic from the deadly H7N9 bird flu virus that has taken root in China. The company claims that in just 100 days, it renovated and retrofitted Pfizer’s former Pearl River, N.Y., facility to produce three lots of antigens for its Flublok brand seasonal anti-flu treatment. The vaccine won federal approval back in January.


It Is Not Just About Solaris Only

April 2013 - Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has announced that it is broadening and strengthening its senior leadership team in line with the Company’s mission to develop and commercialize life transforming therapies for patients with disorders that are severe, life-threatening, and ultra-rare. Stephen Squinto, Ph.D., co-founder of Alexion, is being promoted to the newly created position of Executive Vice President, Chief Global Operations Officer. Martin Mackay, Ph.D. will be joining Alexion as Executive Vice President, Global Head of R&D, and Saqib Islam, J.D. has joined Alexion as Senior Vice President, Chief Strategy and Portfolio Officer. These senior executives will help to broaden Alexion’s portfolio of transformative ultra-orphan therapeutic candidates and accelerate the development of these candidates into approved products.


Joining Technology Adds Another Francoeur to the Team

April 2013 - Joining Technologies, Inc., an innovator in industrial laser applications, has announced that Matt Francoeur has been appointed as General Manager. In this role, Mr. Francoeur will be responsible for overseeing operational continuity and implementing the company’s business strategy. He will work closely with the company president and co-owner Dave Hudson to organize internal teams and execute a forward-thinking plan for continued growth.


Defibtech Receives the 2013 “Exporter of the Year” Award in Washington
April 2013 - ThinkGlobal Inc., publisher of Commercial News USA, the official export promotion magazine of the U.S. Department of Commerce has selected CTC member Defibtech as one of its Exporter of the Year honorees. Headquartered in Guilford, Defibtech creates and manufactures automated external defibrillators (AEDs). The company was the sole winner of the Exporter of the Year award in the medical scientific product and equipment category, as well as the only winner from Connecticut and the New England region


Priceline.com and MapQuest to Partner
April 2013 - Priceline Partner Network, a business unit of Norwalk-based priceline.com, has announced a partnership with MapQuest to power its newly launched feature to book travel. MapQuest, which is one of the leading mapping brands online, reaches 35.2 million web users as of March 2013 and 16.5 million mobile users as of February 2013. The company’s mobile services are compatible with a variety of mobile devices, including iPhone and Android devices. MapQuest is a subsidiary of AOL and is based in Denver.


ATMI Keeps On Innovating
April 2013 - ATMI, Inc., a global technology company and a leader in single-use process solutions, has introduced the first all-

single-use fill/finish platform for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical applications that is compliant with current good manufacturing practices (cGMP).


First Niagara Goes Mobile
February 2013 - First Niagara Bank has entered the mobile realm with the launch of a new smartphone application for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry phones. The app allows users to access their accounts, including the ability to view balances and transaction history, Bill Pay services, money transfers, and search for locations and services. The app was pilot tested by 1,800 First Niagara members in December.


Defib Goes Automatic
February 2013 - If you’re in danger of a heart attack, you might not have to worry about the competency of those around you to help. Defibrillator maker Defibtech has developed the newly cleared-for-sale Lifeline automatic external defibrillator, which provides an automatic shock when it detects a heart arrhythmia in the victim of sudden cardiac arrest. The unit is designed to make use of the device simple. Certain models also provide audio prompts to responders on where to apply defibrillating pads to the victim and when to begin CPR.



Core Informatics Adds Key Staff Person
February 2013 - Core Informatics, a provider of laboratory data management software, has announced that has joined the company as senior director of operations. Phillips previously served as senior director of informatics at Pfizer.


Protein Makes Important New Hire
February 2013 - Protein Sciences Corp. has announced that Wayne Hachey has joined the company's management as head of government and clinical affairs. Hachey most recently served as the chief of public health for the 1st Medical Brigade in Afghanistan where he provided public health leadership to protect over 98,000 U.S. troops.


Fuel Cell Energy makes deal with Swiss Company
February 2013 - FuelCell Energy, Inc. (Nasdaq:FCEL) has announced that it has entered into a multi-year service agreement for a stationary fuel cell power plant owned by Elektrizitaetswerke Zurich (ewz), an electric utility company in Switzerland. FuelCell Energy Solutions (FCES) will operate and maintain the power plant in close collaboration with ewz and will supervise the plant from a European-based operations center.

February 2013 - New CTC member Thinklogical LLC, a global manufacturer and provider of secure fiber optic video routing and KVM extension systems, has announced that it achieved record growth in sales, profitability and new customers in 2012, driven by expanded market coverage, new products, and key personnel hires. “Our remarkable growth is driven by the increasing need for fiber-based KVM and video extension and switching systems,” said Joe Pajer, President and CEO of Thinklogical. “High bandwidth, fiber-based solutions are the only way to truly meet the performance, security, continuous operation and ease of integration demands that are becoming prevalent in applications such as command and control, video editing, video analysis, live event staging, live event broadcasting, scientific modeling, simulation, medical operating rooms and air traffic control.”


Liberty Bank Makes Acquisition
January 2013 - Middletown's Liberty Bank is paying $11 million for New Haven lender The Bank of Southern Connecticut, a deal that will allow Liberty to bolster its presence in the Elm City and surrounding county. The merger is expected to be completed in the second quarter pending regulatory approval, officials said Thursday. Liberty Bank, a mutual savings lender with $3.5 billion in assets and 44 branches, will pay about $3.76 per share in cash to acquire Southern Connecticut Bancorp's four-branch network in New Haven, North Haven and Branford.

January 2013 - Wisconsin-based FiServ is buying Open Solutions. In a $1Billion deal, what we have often described as the state’s largest software company, is going to be part of a company that is about ten items bigger revenue wise. Keep an eye on what OSI’s CEO, Louis Hernandez Jr, does next.
