America’s Declining Rates of Entrepreneurship

The Washington Monthly recently published an article highlighting recent study findings that show a decline in entrepreneurship in the US. Why does it matter? New businesses often introduce innovations into the market, and create jobs. The founding and growth of businesses were analyzed in order to determine what economists call the level of “Economic Dynamism”. Economic Dynamism is said to be critical to rising living standards.

The Brookings Institution recently stated in a publication that the US has “been on the wrong trajectory when it comes to these things.” The rate of business creation has been falling, while the average population age has been on the rise. The trends that may be further diminishing Economic Dynamism are discussed in the Washington Monthly article.
