Glacier Computer LLC

Company Description

Glacier Computer designs, manufactures and supports rugged industrial computers for a variety of industries including warehousing, freight, manufacturing, construction, and public safety. Glacier units are designed to withstand the rigors of harsh environments including extremes of temperature, moisture, shock, and vibration. Units are installed in fixed locations as well as on vehicles, including forklifts.

Business Solutions
Glacier units are used to bring computing power to areas of a work environment that traditionally cannot host a computer. Demands such as temperature or physical location are such that a standard desktop or laptop would not be suitable. Glacier computers are networked as wired or wirelessly and allow operators to enter and retrieve data from a forklift, construction vehicle or police car. Companies and organizations realize gains in both efficiency and accuracy.

Target Customers

Glacier’s markets include freight, warehousing, distribution, and manufacturing. Customers include Target, Honda, John Deere, Hormel Foods, and International Paper.

Business Partners
Its partners include Microsoft, National Products, Shockwatch, Datalogix, and Clearview.

Competitors
Competitors include Motorola, Intermec, Teklogix, and LXE. Glacier distinguishes itself by offering faster response times before and after the sale, very competitive pricing, more product features, and unmatched support.

Future Business Opportunies
Continued acceptance of mobile computing in all industry segments presents Glacier an opportunity for significant growth moving forward. The use of mobile computers, RFID, and wireless Ethernet mean that Glacier hardware will be rolled out in more and more environments. Payback periods based on efficiency gains are making rugged computer deployments an easy decision. To support this growth, Glacier will be investing in new products, new market segments and new territories.

Business Challenges

Continued pricing pressure and new potential competition from companies like Dell and HP could make for a more difficult sales cycle. Also, the entry of units labeled “semi rugged” without any true definition are clouding the market somewhat.
