RSL Fiber Systems is bringing technology from U.S. Navy-approved, Advanced Lighting Systems (ALS) to commercial applications. In the simplest terms, remote source lighting (RSL) technology involves generating light in one location and then transporting that light for use in one or more other locations. The RSL technology consists of transmitting light generated by a high intensity light engine (illuminator) through a length of fiber optic cable and emitting it at a distance from a light diffusing device (luminaire). The RSL technology provides several benefits when compared to conventional lighting. While conventional and commercial RSL systems utilize plastic (PMMA) optical fibers, RSL Fiber Systems uses proprietary fiber optic cable, developed for the US Navy, to deliver the light from source to desired light location. The result: light can be transmitted over a distance of more than 900 feet with RSL Fiber Optic Technology.
