Innovation is a complex venture, one that requires time, energy, patience, determination, and above all, great ideas. That’s not all, innovators need support, guidance and capital. They need a network of like-minded individuals, experts, mentors and investors who can help them turn their dreams into reality, their plans to profit. Cue the Innovation Summit, Connecticut’s ultimate gathering of entrepreneurship, innovation, and growth. It’s no surprise that this year’s gathering was the biggest, most impressive conference yet.
Each year Connecticut’s innovation ecosystem grows as the community furthers its embrace around tech innovation. This year, the Summit gathered 450+ attendees made up of investors, entrepreneurs, tech talent, business executives, service providers and tech supporters at the Connecticut Convention Center for a day full of valuable networking and educational opportunities.
“… the conference was the best industry networking event I have been to yet in Connecticut. The small tables for the vendors to present at made it really easy to get connected, and the overall venue was really good.”
– Eric A Montgomery, Managing Partner, Fairfield Partners
Primarily a networking event, the day kicked off with lots of hot coffee and exhibition set-up. By the time Governor Malloy was on stage to kick-off the event, many investors and entrepreneurs were already swapping business cards. After a few encouraging and celebratory words from the governor, attendees rushed off to participate in a myriad of activities. Workshops focused on Angel investing and non-diluted funding were held in break-out rooms while pitching commenced on the main stage. At the same time, many companies returned to their booths in the exhibit hall to show off their technologies. Funding sources roamed the exhibit hall and pitching area to scout out investment opportunities. By lunch time it was obvious that connections were being made between all attendees.
“Another great event this year. It makes me both proud and energized to see the breadth and variety of exciting young tech-based ventures growing in and around Connecticut. Thanks to the CTC for providing a solid forum to help them each get to their next-level!”
– Don Logan, Managing Partner, Next Level Growth LLC
The afternoon progressed with just as must gusto; there were workshops focused on talent acquisition and startup challenges and more company pitches on the main stage. At 4:00pm all attendees made their way back the main stage where they voted in a Pitch-Off competition between pre-selected pitching companies. They also witnessed awards given out to the company with the “best product or solution” as well as “most promising” companies in each of the respective industry categories. The winners are as follows:
At the conclusion of the event some of the Innovation Summit supporting sponsors took promising Tech Companies To Watch to dinner in order to connect further. Dilworth IP was one such sponsor.
“On behalf of the firm, I wanted to thank the council for the opportunity for us to sponsor the Innovation Summit yesterday, and particularly for the opportunity to host a post event dinner for our selection of attendees. The feedback was very positive and everyone seemed to find real value in the exchange.” – Thomas P. DeFelice, Director of Client Development and Operations.
Congratulations again to all of the 2015 Innovation Summit Tech Companies To Watch, and a huge shout out our sponsors, volunteers and presenting organizations for making this event possible!
