In terms of jobs and salaries, a new report shows the tech sector is booming.

America’s tech payrolls ballooned nearly three times faster than the country’s overall pool of employees in 2016 and carried more than 626,000 vacancies at the end of the year, according to a new study that offers a glimpse into a thriving branch of the U.S. labor market.

The industry profile published Monday by tech-focused trade association CompTIA shows the tech sector employed roughly 5 percent of U.S. private employees in 2016. The study also suggests the U.S. tech scene accounted for nearly 8 percent of last year’s overall national economic growth.
